SSPOPLAB is a research laboratory on the dynamics of populations in Africa and its diaspora. It is housed within the Department of Sociology at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). The laboratory is directed by Professor Vissého Adjiwanou, Ph.D. The laboratory conducts population studies to better understand, among other things, the family experiences of populations in sub-Saharan Africa but also of the daughters and sons of this continent who live elsewhere in the world in order to better understand the interaction between these populations and the challenges they face. The laboratory’s research should help support family policies in Africa and better (family) integration of the African diaspora. Successful family integration is the key to the success of African and African-origin children. The laboratory is also interested in work related to reproductive health in Africa, gender issues and development.
